Mary Kathryn (MK) completed her 200 RYT at Studio DC. She is a daughter, sister and a friend - a partner, a dancer and music lover - a student, teacher and yogi. When MK graduated college, she yearned for a life practice that nourished and opened the body, mind and spirit. Focusing on self-development, she craved a practice that would bring balance, beauty and greater happiness to herself and to the world.
As a kid she would follow her brothers along the rivers of West Virginia, carefully treading in their footsteps as they moved from rock to rock. They would swim, fish and play all day in the water. It took her a while to run as smoothly as they did across the rocks but eventually she caught on as the constant flow of the water helped as a guide. As an admirer of the smooth rhythm of the water, MK took on life just as the current would flow over, around and through rocks.
Her life philosophy from an early age has been to move like water. Just like water, we have the power to be smooth and graceful, strong and artful, and the power to overcome obstacles and constantly change forms.
As MK continued to practice at The Studio, yoga began to fill her up with an all-encompassing completeness just as a full breath of air fills up your lungs. MK believes yoga is an art-form, one that allows us to challenge ourselves, move, groove and change our lives by dedicating time to better our inner-well-being. As explained in the Bhagavad Gita, yoga is the practice of tolerating the consequences of being yourself. MK believes that the mat provides an opportunity to evolve, to become centered and to exercise the body to still the mind. When one steps off the mat, it is our responsibility to participate in the evolution that began before we were born and will continue on until we pass. MK invites her classes to breath, flow and get funky as one in an effort to grow, evolve and better our community as one.
